Iain Farrington
Composer, Arranger, Pianist, Organist
Iain Farrington's work spans composition, arranging, and virtuosic piano performance. He has gained international acclaim for his ability to bridge the gap between classical tradition and contemporary accessibility. A hallmark of his career was performing the Chariots of Fire theme alongside Rowan Atkinson’s Mr Bean during the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony. Farrington has arranged hundreds of works in many styles, including opera, instrumental and choral, African songs, cabaret, klezmer, jazz and pop. He is renowned for his chamber-orchestral reductions of large-scale works, making symphonic repertoire accessible to smaller ensembles. Iain composed an organ piece for the 2023 Coronation in Westminster Abbey, and arranged a number of the orchestral works for the occasion. His original compositions often weave together jazz, blues, and classical influences, showcased in numerous commissions for the BBC Proms—notably Extra Time for the 2024 Last Night of the Proms. His work is characterized by rhythmic vitality and a deep, practical understanding of orchestral colour, fuelled by his career as a solo pianist and organist.
“A skillful and imaginative pasticcio. Farrington’s arrangements breathe fresh, unsentimental life into Novello’s melodies ...”
